My wheel setup in the studio, it's a jolly-good mess!

About

I've been making things for as long as I could plug in a glue-gun. Over the years I have tried my hand at painting, theater set design, welding, glass mosaics, furniture making, clothing design, sewing (on my grandmothers 1948 Phaff machine!), quilt making, knitting, and indigo dying. Eventually I came to recognize that two creative passions, buildings and pottery, resonated the most with me. Thus I began my studies in both Architecture and Ceramics at college and have been doing both ever since.

My design process is based on the human experience. Whether it's the experience of being in a wonderful space or holding a perfectly shaped bowl, I believe that good design has the potential to elevate life. I have discovered that designing buildings and creating functional pottery have unexpected commonalities; both buildings and ceramics require an understanding of structure and form to create the desired experience. I also feel strongly that both buildings and ceramics should be defined by their use in daily life. Finally, they both have intrinsic material limitations to keep creativity in balance with practical problem solving.

I find immense pleasure in fostering an idea in my mind and then bringing it into existence with my hands
